5 Tips for Creating a Healthy Home

Blog

Your home should be your safe place. Where you find comfort and refuge from the craziness of the outside world. It can often be seen as a sanctuary, but to make it into a true sanctuary, it’s important to not only make it comfortable but also safe and healthy.

With this in mind, it is important to create an environment that is healthy and conducive to a good quality of life. Creating a healthy home is essential to promote physical and mental well-being, provide a safe and comfortable environment, and improve the overall quality of life.

Improve indoor air quality.

Something that I have found to be very interesting is the statistics on indoor air quality vs. outdoor air quality. Indoor air quality is frequently much worse than outdoor air quality. This is due to dust, dander, the products we use in our home, mold, and many other factors, as well. And the crazy thing about it? Most of the time, people have no idea that their indoor quality is not-so-great. If you want to create a healthy home, start with your indoor air quality. There are many things you can do to improve it! For starters, open windows to bring in fresh air (I try to do this at least 15 minutes each day!) and use air purifiers to help keep your air free from toxins and other pollutants. A lot of the below information will also help you improve your air quality naturally (like using better cleaning products and reducing clutter). Let me dive in a bit more!

Use eco-friendly cleaning products.

Many conventional cleaning products contain harsh chemicals and toxins that can harm you and the environment. Opt for natural and non-toxic cleaning products whenever possible. There are great options out there – things that you can make at home (like vinegar and baking soda) or you can do a purchased product like Branch Basics. There are plenty of healthier and safer options out there!

Reduce the amount of clutter in your home.

Clutter can add to a feeling of stress, overwhelm, and chaos. Donating and discarding items that no longer serve a purpose in your home can be a great way to create a more calming and healthy home environment. In addition to creating more of a peaceful and calming environment, decluttering can be beneficial in other ways. Decluttering makes it easier to clean, which makes it easier to reduce the amount of dust in your home (back to the air quality!!). It also has been shown to reduce stress. I don’t know about you, but if I have too many things, it stresses me out even more – especially when it comes time to clean them.

Go through your home and reduce the number of things you have. If it does not bring you joy, you don’t need it. This goes for both large and small items – junk, clutter, nicknacks, and large items, too. If you need help moving things around, reach out to a local moving company to see if they can move just a few items for you. Most can do that! For example, Movin’ is a team of Gun safe movers Salt Lake City, Utah, who can move a few items for you, store items for you, or make a full-service move for your home or business in Utah.

Add houseplants.

Not only do houseplants bring life and beauty to your home, but they are also natural air purifiers and can help filter out toxins in the air. There is a NASA list of the best air-purifying plants if you are unsure where to start!

Reduce your use of chemicals.

Avoid the harsh chemicals used in your home, such as aerosols, fragrances, and air fresheners. Don’t just limit it to the inside; think outdoors too!
